Programs
The Foundation in partnership with the Sarasota County Schools, the members of Xi Psi Lambda Chapter, and other volunteers and affiliates have engaged in the following activities at Booker High School, Riverview High School, Sarasota High School, Venice High School, North Port High School, The Westcoast School, Heron Creek Middle School, and Booker Middle School:
MentoringOver the past seven years, members have participated in various mentoring efforts, such as Criminal Justice, Personal Health, Character and Values, and Self Esteem and Peer Pressure Issues, which have changed the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged youth in the area. The Foundation has aggressively worked over the past few years to enhance this program through resource development, outreach, and the development of educational incentives for student participants.
Leadership and Skills Development
Low income and disadvantaged minority students in Sarasota and Manatee Counties need to develop skills, which are not being developed in the normal classroom setting, or in the community. Targeted seminars on communication, test-taking strategies, pregnancy prevention, and career goal development are among the topics that will be presented on an annual basis. Students in the Mentoring Program and other disadvantaged youth will be invited to participate in these sessions. In the 2007-2008 school year the program served 110 to 150 students.

College TourIn a nation where less than 25% of African-American and Latino high school students will complete four years of college, young minority males face an uphill battle on the road to success. The Foundation considers this current situation to be extremely serious and is committed to making a difference. The college tour is a step in the right direction. Plans call for taking 7 to 8 students on a tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
